Festivals in Santo Antão

The biggest festivals are Santa António das Pombas in Paul on June 13 and São João Baptista on June 24. Both festivals last several days and everyone helps in the celebrations.

The Day of the Parish of Paul, on June 13, is a great celebration that is prepared for a month, with horse races and dancing.

24 June São João Baptista

The biggest festival of the year is São João Baptista on June 24.
It starts with a 20 km procession accompanied by the sound of drums, at the cross from the mountains down to Porto Nov. The festival in Porto Nove will last all week, during which the statue of São João is paraded through the city.
