The name Boa Vista means “Beautiful View”, and yet this island is still like a mystery. The wide, pristine, golden sand beaches with rich turquoise waters and the unique atmosphere make Boa Vista a truly fantastic holiday destination. Soa Nicolau is an ideal destination for mountain bikers and hikers. Along the cliff roads you will be offered breathtaking views. The Monte Gordo Nature Park offers many interesting possibilities for hikes of several days on the island. The villages with their colonial architecture and simple way of life seem to have stood still in time. There are long deserted beaches, and if you like fishing, the waters around São Nicolau are famous for their blue marlin. Also, São Nicolau is a great place for diving and surfing, yet undiscovered by many tourists.

It means “fire” in Portuguese. Fogo still has an active volcano “Pico do Fogo”, which towers over the island. Besides the dark rivers of cold hardened lava that reach into the ocean, you can find fertile fields and even forests of eucalyptus trees. In the valleys and slopes you can find coffee, fruit trees, and vines. These green slopes are a great contrast to the moon-like landscape of the crater. Many hiking trails start in Sao Filip to visit the natural park.

With its green peaks, fertile craters, and cliff-hugging towns, Santo Antão seems worlds away from the golden sandy beaches of Boa Vista and Sal. Santo Antão is the perfect island for hiking. There are several hiking routes with breathtaking views and many other activities to choose from. You can go diving, snorkeling or fishing. Santo Antão is also a good destination for bird watching.

Ribeira Grande, Cabo Verde

As the smallest of the Cabo Verde Islands, you’ll find a gentle, communal lifestyle on Brava. Do not expect beaches, water sports or lots of activities. It’s the perfect place if you are looking for peace and quiet. Visit Vila Nova Sintra, the capital, and enjoy a pleasant walk through the city. Relax at the Fajã de Agua or take a fishing trip. For avid hikers, there are several days of different hikes to take. Due to strong winds, the airport is closed. By boat, you can reach Brava via Fogo, which is only 20 km away.

Maio is often called “the forgotten island” and is a peaceful and quiet island with quiet dunes and secret, beautiful, empty beaches like Bitxa Rotxa beach. In Cidade do Porto Inglés, the main town, you’ll find a few restaurants among the charming, colorful houses. Maio is largely a brown desert with a surprisingly fertile valley and unexpected patches of acacia forests. On Ilhéu Laje Branca you can see some interesting seabirds. Since there are no real activities here, Maio is an ideal place for a quiet retreat without distractions.
